A South Bend Split Bamboo Fishing Rod, No. 77
Description
This vintage South Bend split bamboo fishing rod is presented disassembled in four sections, accompanied by its original tan canvas rod bag. The rod sections are crafted from varnished split bamboo with metal ferrules and dark-wrapped line guides, terminating in a cork handle and a chrome-plated metal reel seat. An oval label on the rod reads “SOUTH BEND MADE IN QUALITY TACKLE U.S.A. BAIT COMPANY”. The accompanying canvas bag features a faded and worn tag indicating “ROD No. 77 WGT. 9”, “South Bend SPLIT BAMBOO”, and “MADE IN U. S. A.”
Condition report:
The rod exhibits good used condition with expected wear, including tarnishing and minor scratches to metal components, and significant soiling and wear to the cork handle. The canvas rod bag shows considerable wear, fading, and fraying consistent with age and use.
