Lot 180:
Description
An antique Moore’s Patent Fire Arms Co. ‘Teat Fire’ Front Loading Revolver, .32 caliber, dating to the mid-to-late 19th century and associated with the Civil War era. The revolver features a dark metal barrel and cylinder, now heavily patinated. The frame exhibits intricate scroll engraving and appears to be made of or plated with a brass-toned metal, with considerable wear revealing the underlying material. Dark, possibly ebonized, wooden grips show extensive wear, scratches, and loss of finish, exposing lighter wood underneath, and include a brass escutcheon around the grip screw. A lighter central strip is visible on the backstrap. A stylized sunburst or fan motif is visible on the barrel near the cylinder. The barrel is clearly marked with the English inscription “MOORE’S PAT FIRE ARMS CO. BROOKLYN N.Y.”
Condition report:
Heavily worn condition consistent with age and extended use or exposure. The dark metal barrel and cylinder exhibit heavy patination, significant surface rust, pitting, and substantial loss of original blued finish. The brass-toned frame shows considerable wear, with the plating or surface material largely absent in areas, revealing the underlying metal. The wooden grips have extensive wear, scratches, and loss of finish, exposing lighter wood beneath the ebonized surface. Functionality has not been tested.
