A vintage cardboard box containing fifty .44 S & W SPECIAL SMOKELESS central fire cartridges, manufactured by The Remington Arms Union Metallic Cartridge Company (UMC) of Bridgeport, Conn., U.S.A. The packaging states, “These cartridges are made according to the specific directions of Smith & Wesson,” suggesting an early 20th-century or pre-mid-century period. The box contains fifty metallic cartridges, primarily brass-cased with lead projectiles. Some cartridges bear visible “U” or “UMC” headstamps.
Condition report:
The outer cardboard box is in poor condition, exhibiting significant discoloration, staining, tearing, and creasing across all visible surfaces, particularly on the sides and ends. The cartridges show tarnishing and age commensurate with their vintage, but appear largely intact.
