Description
A vintage Winchester Repeating Arms Co. cardboard ammunition box, containing twenty .40-82 Caliber Soft Point cartridges. The box is prominently branded ‘WINCHESTER’ and features labels detailing ‘.40-82 CALIBER, SOFT POINT, MODEL 1886’ smokeless powder cartridges (260 Gr. Metal Patched Soft Point Bullet). The labels state suitability ‘FOR WINCHESTER MODEL 1888 AND SINGLE SHOT RIFLES.’ Visible text confirms manufacture by ‘WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO., New Haven, Conn., U. S. A.’ and includes numerical codes such as ‘2918 11-8.’ Inside, twenty brass-cased cartridges are present, predominantly featuring ‘W.R.A. CO. 40-82 W.C.F.’ headstamps.

The exterior cardboard box is in poor to fair condition, showing extensive wear, tears, staining, and fading to the paper labels, though primary descriptive information remains discernible. The cartridges appear in good, unfired condition with typical age-related patina on the brass.
