Four Antique Leavenworth Federal Prison, Cumberland Mining Co, and Colt Padlocks with Keys
Description
A group of four antique or vintage heavy-duty padlocks, primarily constructed of iron or steel, each displaying significant surface rust, corrosion, and wear consistent with age and industrial use. Two of the larger padlocks are of a robust, riveted design with prominent rounded shackles, each fitted with a brass plate engraved ‘LEAVENWORTH FEDERAL PRISON 381’ and ‘LEAVENWORTH FEDERAL PRISON 314’ respectively. The padlock marked ‘314’ is accompanied by two keys. A third large padlock, of similar robust, riveted design, features a brass plate marked ‘CUMBERLAND MINING CO’ and is accompanied by a large key. The fourth, smaller padlock features a brass-toned top plate embossed with ‘COLT’ and is accompanied by a smaller, corresponding key. All items exhibit a dark, oxidized patina but appear structurally intact.
Condition report:
Each padlock exhibits significant surface rust, pitting, and corrosion throughout the iron/steel components, consistent with prolonged exposure and industrial use. The brass plates show verdigris and wear to the engraving. The shackles and bodies appear structurally intact. Keys show commensurate wear and oxidation. Functionality of the locks is untested.
