Description
An Uberti Model 1873 .44-40 Caliber ‘Scouts of the Western Frontier’ commemorative lever-action rifle, likely commissioned by America Remembers. The rifle features a blued steel octagonal barrel and a polished dark wood stock and forend with checkered panels. The receiver, lever, and buttplate are gold-toned and extensively engraved with intricate scrollwork, a buffalo motif, and an eagle emblem. The receiver also displays portraits identified as “WILD BILL HICKOK”, “JIM BECKWORTH”, “JIM BRIDGER”, “WILLIAM F. CODY”, and “KIT CARSON”. An inscription on the receiver reads: “Dedicated To The Lives And Legends Of Wm. F. Cody And The Scouts Of The Western Frontier.” Visible markings include “CAL. 44-40”, “A. UBERTI MADE IN ITALY”, and “SA AHL MECHANICSVILLE VA” on the barrel, with “CAT. 1583”, Italian proof marks, and the serial number “70528” visible on the underside. The rifle is equipped with a tang-mounted adjustable rear sight.
Condition report:
Overall excellent, well-preserved condition. Minimal visible wear to blued components and wood. The gold-toned finish on the buttplate shows minor surface wear and light discoloration consistent with handling. Mechanically sound.
