Lot 1127:
Description
A US Military WWI/WWII Era Leather Rifle Scabbard, likely for a 1903 Springfield or M1 Garand rifle. This item is an aged, elongated leather case, often referred to as a saddle boot. Constructed from thick, reddish-brown tanned leather, it exhibits a tapered form, wider at one end and narrower at the other, with robust stitching along its edges. The scabbard is fitted with multiple leather straps, secured by metal rivets and buckles, with one strap assembly featuring a metal D-ring and another concluding with a substantial metal hook. The broader end is open, while the narrower end is sealed with a circular metal fitting. No legible text or manufacturer’s markings are discernible on the item.
Condition report:
Good, aged condition. Exhibits widespread surface wear, numerous scratches, scuffs, and areas of pronounced discoloration and darkening, consistent with heavy patination and extensive use. The leather shows signs of drying and stiffening in areas but remains largely intact. No obvious structural failures or tears are visible. Metal fittings show oxidation and surface wear.
