Lot 1148:
Description
A vintage Winchester Model 1897 pump-action shotgun, constructed from blued steel and dark hardwood. The barrel is marked “MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN, CONN. U.S.A.” along with various patent dates from 1890 to 1900, “12 GA.” indicating 12 Gauge, and “FULL” for the choke. The slide bar is stamped “MODEL 1897 – WINCHESTER – TRADE MARK.” The serial number “372374” is visible on the underside of the receiver/magazine tube. The dark hardwood stock features a checkered butt plate embossed with “WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO.” The ribbed fore-end also exhibits wear and retains a darker finish. The action appears complete, with an external hammer. The shotgun features a 30″ barrel.
Condition report:
The metal components, including the barrel, receiver, and magazine tube, display a worn blued finish with areas of silvering, scratches, and light pitting. The dark hardwood stock shows numerous surface scratches and a visible crack extending from the receiver towards the butt. Overall condition suggests significant cosmetic wear consistent with an antique firearm.
