Description

A Colt Model 1849 Pocket Percussion Revolver, mid-19th century American manufacture, accompanied by a contemporary-style soft case. The revolver features a blued steel barrel, frame, and cylinder, with a polished wooden grip and a silver-plated brass trigger guard and backstrap. The cylinder is marked “COLT’S PATENT” and “NO 99931,” displaying an engraved scene depicting a naval engagement. The barrel is marked “ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW-YORK CITY.” Matching serial number “99931” is present on the barrel lug, frame, and backstrap. The accompanying soft case is constructed from patterned animal hide with dark leather trim and a zippered closure.

Condition report:

The revolver shows considerable wear consistent with age and use. There is significant loss of original bluing across all steel components, with areas of surface oxidation and some pitting, particularly on the barrel and cylinder. The engraved scene on the cylinder is still discernible but worn. The wooden grips exhibit wear, minor dents, and scratches. The silver plating on the trigger guard and backstrap is worn, revealing the brass substrate in areas. Mechanically appears to function, but not tested for firing. The accompanying soft case shows minor signs of use, including some wear to the hide and leather trim.
