Vintage South Bend Model 359 Bamboo Fly Rod
Description
A vintage South Bend Model 359 bamboo fly rod, disassembled into six sections. The rod features a classic construction with a varnished bamboo shaft, a segmented cork grip, and various metal components including ferrules, reel seat hardware, and line guides with black thread wrappings. Visible markings include a yellow rectangular decal on the shaft identifying the maker as “SOUTH BEND” with the slogan “A Name Famous in Fishing,” handwritten numbers “59-9” on another part of the shaft, and a white sticker marked “36604” on a metal band near the reel seat.
Condition report:
The rod is in used, good vintage condition. It exhibits expected signs of age and use such as tarnish on metal parts, significant wear and chipping on the cork grip, and minor scuffs on the bamboo sections and thread wrappings.
