Description
An L.C. Smith Field Grade 12 GA double-barrel shotgun. This hammerless, side-by-side shotgun is crafted from blued steel and checkered wood. The manufacturer’s name “L. C. SMITH.” is clearly engraved on the receiver sideplates. The serial number “33210” is prominently displayed on the trigger guard tang, forend iron, and the underside of the barrel assembly. Additional markings include patent dates “PAT’D JUNE.1.80”, “JULY.3/83”, and “OCT.5/86” visible on the barrel underside or forend iron, indicating a late 19th-century manufacture. A decorative star or rosette-like marking is present on the forend’s metalwork. The butt plate is a black, patterned material, likely hard rubber or plastic.
Condition report:
Fair to poor overall condition. The item exhibits significant signs of age and use. There is extensive loss of original bluing and case hardening, with widespread surface rust and pitting on metal components. The wooden stock and forend show numerous scratches, dings, and finish loss. The butt plate displays wear consistent with age and use.
