Description
A vintage cardboard ammunition box, manufactured by Winchester Repeating Arms Co. in New Haven, Conn., U.S.A., for .38 caliber central fire cartridges, expressly for Smith & Wesson New .38 Cal. Central Fire Revolvers. The box features a faded green paper label with black text and an illustration of a revolver. The label prominently displays “50 CARTRIDGES, SOLID HEAD, .38 CALIBER, Central Fire.” and “MANUFACTURED BY THE Winchester Repeating Arms Co. NEW HAVEN, CONN., U. S. A. Expressly for SMITH & WESSON New .38 Cal. Central Fire Revolver.” The side panels further confirm the caliber as “38 S & W C.F.” The contents consist of 50 ROUNDS, an assortment of tarnished brass .38 S&W cartridge cases, many with “W.R.A. Co. .38 S&W” headstamps, intermixed with numerous oxidized lead bullets and lead balls.
Condition report:
The box is in poor apparent condition, exhibiting significant wear, tears, creasing, and fading to both the cardboard structure and the paper label, consistent with age. The contents show tarnishing and oxidation.
