An antique Union Metallic Cartridge Co. (UMC) cardboard box containing 43 live .44 Calibre Winchester Central-Fire cartridges and 4 empty casings. The box features faded and torn paper labels, primarily in yellow and light brown, prominently marked “U.M.C.” and “THE UNION METALLIC CARTRIDGE CO. BRIDGEPORT, CONN., U.S.A.” The main label specifies “50 CENTRAL-FIRE CARTRIDGES FOR .44 CALIBRE WINCHESTER,” indicating “40 GRS POWDER” and “217 GRS BULLET,” and includes an illustration of a cartridge. Additional labels carry a “GUARANTEE” listing compatible firearms such as Colt, Winchester, and Marlin, with some handwritten cursive text, “Union Metallic Cartridge Co.”, also visible.
