Description
A vintage box of 50 .38 S&W Central-Fire Cartridges by The Union Metallic Cartridge Co. The cardboard box features a main paper label specifying “50 .38 CAL. S & W. CENTRAL-FIRE CARTRIDGES,” manufactured by The Union Metallic Cartridge Co., Bridgeport, Conn., U.S.A., with a prominent “U.M.C.” trademark. The label also indicates “15 GRS POWDER” and “146 GRS BULLET.” A separate orange paper label on the bottom provides a “GUARANTEE” statement, noting compatibility with firearms from manufacturers such as Smith & Wesson, Colt’s, Winchester, Marlin, Remington, Savage, and Stevens. The box is covered in a dark, textured material. It contains 50 cartridges, each with a brass casing and lead bullet. Many cartridges display “U.M.C.” and “.38 S & W.” headstamps.
Condition report:
The box is heavily distressed, showing significant wear, extensive scuffing, discoloration, creasing, and minor tears on its labels and covering. The cartridges inside exhibit tarnish on the brass and oxidation on the lead.
