20 Rounds Winchester .38-56 Caliber Center Fire Rifle Cartridges
Description
This item consists of twenty .38-56 caliber center fire rifle cartridges, manufactured by Winchester Repeating Arms Co., New Haven, Conn., U.S.A. The cartridges are housed in their original vintage cardboard box, extensively labeled with “WINCHESTER,” “.38-56 CALIBER, CENTER FIRE CARTRIDGES,” and specifying usage for “WINCHESTER MODEL 1886 and SINGLE SHOT RIFLES.” The box also includes reloading instructions, recommending specific powder brands (Mills, Hazard Powder Co., E. I. Du Pont & Co.), bullet casting ratios (one part pure tin to sixteen parts pure lead), and lubrication (wax or tallow). The cartridges feature brass casings with headstamps reading “W.R.A. CO. 38-56 W.H.V.” and are fitted with lead bullets.
Condition report:
The cardboard box is in poor condition, exhibiting significant discoloration, fading, creasing, tears, and loss of paper. The cartridges show considerable age, tarnish, and some corrosion on the brass casings and primers. The lead bullets also appear worn.
