A vintage box of Union Metallic Cartridge Co. .38 Long Colt Smokeless Central-Fire Cartridges. This vintage cardboard box, designed with a plaid pattern and sepia-toned labels, contains 50 smokeless .38 Long Colt central-fire cartridges. The main label prominently states “50 .38 CAL. LONG .COLT’S SMOKELESS CENTRAL-FIRE CARTRIDGES” and identifies the manufacturer as “THE UNION METALLIC CARTRIDGE Co BRIDGEPORT, CONN., U.S.A.” with a “U.M.C.” trade mark. Additional partial labels indicate suitability for “.38 Calibre Long Colt’s Double Action Revolvers” and describe the cartridges as “CENTRAL Fire Inside Lubricated.” The open box reveals cartridges with tarnished brass casings bearing “U.M.C. 38 L” headstamps and oxidized lead bullets.
