20 Rounds Vintage Winchester .45-70-405 Smokeless Soft Point Cartridges in Original Box
Description
A vintage cardboard box containing 20 rounds of Winchester .45-70-405 Smokeless Soft Point Center Fire Cartridges. Manufactured by the Winchester Repeating Arms Co. of New Haven, Connecticut, U.S.A. The box is identified with “405 Grain Soft Point Bullets” and noted as adapted for “WINCHESTER MODEL 1886 AND SINGLE SHOT RIFLES.” Printed dates/codes “4-16” and “5-14” suggest an early 20th-century production period. The interior holds twenty brass cartridges, some bearing “W.R.A. Co.” and “.45-70” headstamps.
Condition report:
The original heavy cardstock box is in poor, heavily distressed condition, showing extensive tearing, creasing, discoloration, and significant material loss across its surfaces and labels. The 20 cartridges are in fair to good condition, displaying an age-appropriate patina, minor tarnish, and surface residue on the exposed soft-point lead bullet of one cartridge.
