A Group of 66 Vintage Winchester and Remington UMC .22 Caliber Rimfire Rifle Cartridges
Description
This lot comprises two partially full vintage cardboard boxes of .22 caliber rimfire rifle cartridges, containing a total of 66 rounds. The top box, from Winchester Repeating Arms Co. of New Haven, Conn. U.S.A., is labeled for “50 .22 CAL. RIFLE CARTRIDGES SMOKELESS” and specifies “50 .22 LONG SMOKELESS WINCHESTER MAKE” “TARGET CARTRIDGES GREASELESS BULLETS.” The bottom box, by Remington Arms Company UMC, is labeled “.22 LONG RIFLE PALMA” and advertises “EXCEPTIONALY ACCURATE FOR USE IN ALL STANDARD SINGLE SHOT AND REPEATING RIFLES.” The visible cartridges inside both boxes feature copper-colored casings and lead bullets, many of which show tarnish, oxidation, and some corrosion, with visible headstamps indicating “U” (likely for UMC).
Condition report:
Both boxes are in poor to fair condition, exhibiting significant wear, tears, creases, discoloration, and paper loss consistent with age and handling, with the Remington box having a large opening that exposes its contents. The visible cartridges show tarnish, oxidation, and some corrosion.
