Description
A vintage American single-shot rifle by Marlin, featuring a lever-operated falling-block action and an exposed hammer, characteristic of late 19th-century firearms. The rifle is primarily constructed from blued steel and dark-grained wood, likely walnut. The heavy octagonal barrel measures 30 inches in length. Visible markings on the receiver include “MARLIN FIRE ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN CT, U.S.A.” along with patent dates “PATENTED. FEBRUARY 9, 1875” and “BALLARD’S PATENT. NOV. 5, 1861.” The serial number “19055” is stamped on the tang. The barrel is marked “.38 Long,” indicating its caliber. It is fitted with a brass-toned front sight and an adjustable rear sight. The metal butt plate is present.
Condition report:
Fair condition. The metal components exhibit extensive patina, surface rust, and significant finish loss. The wooden stock and forend display numerous scratches, dents, and a notable crack on the wrist near the receiver. The metal butt plate shows pitting and wear.
