Description
A Remington No. 2 Rolling Block Sporting Rifle, dating from the late 19th to early 20th century. This single-shot rifle features a heavy blued octagonal steel barrel, visibly marked “REMINGTON & SONS. ILION. N.Y.” and “.22” denoting its caliber. The bright finished steel rolling block-style receiver is intricately engraved with foliate scrollwork. It is fitted with a polished wooden stock, likely walnut, and a metal buttplate. A metal plate located on the underside of the forearm bears the marking “L 79”. A modern, two-tone fabric gun case is also included.
Condition report:
Good to very good apparent condition. The blued finish on the barrel exhibits minor surface wear and some areas of patina consistent with age and use. The bright finished receiver shows light scratches and minor discoloration but retains its intricate engraving details. The wooden stock has minor surface wear, small scratches, and light impressions, consistent with handling and age. The metal buttplate shows wear and some finish loss. The action appears to function correctly.
