Description
A James Reid ‘My Friend’ Knuckle Duster Pepperbox Revolver, featuring a compact design with a brass or bronze frame and steel components for its multi-barrel cylinder, hammer, and ring trigger. The frame and grip are embellished with foliate scroll engraving, complemented by radial fluting on the front of the barrel housing. Visible markings include “MY FRIEND PAT’D DEC 26. 186_” on the top strap, indicating a patent date of December 26, likely in the 1860s. The serial number “10444” is stamped on the underside of the grip.
Condition report:
The pistol exhibits significant wear consistent with age. The brass frame shows a dark, aged patina. Steel components, including the cylinder and hammer, display surface pitting and finish loss. A visible crack is present on the right side of the trigger ring. Overall, fair to good antique condition.
