Lot 289:
Description
This lot comprises two vintage or antique cardboard boxes, each containing fifty Winchester .22 Long Rifle rimfire cartridges, totaling 100 rounds. The top box label clearly identifies them as “WINCHESTER .22 LONG RIFLE RIM FIRE CARTRIDGES,” manufactured by Winchester Repeating Arms Co., New Haven, Conn., U. S. A., with visible numbers “50,” “37,” and “11-6.” The bottom box is similarly marked for “WINCHESTER .22 LONG RIFLE” with the specific “Lesmok” powder designation, displaying numbers “50,” “49,” and “2-20,” and features a partially torn red label with “ON” visible. Both boxes are constructed from cardboard with printed paper labels and contain brass-cased, lead-bullet ammunition arranged in internal cardboard dividers.
Condition report:
The overall condition of the boxes reflects their age, showing discoloration, staining, fading, and some edge wear and minor tears to both the cardboard and labels. The contained cartridges, while unused, exhibit varying degrees of surface tarnish, oxidation, and patina on their casings and bullets; one round in the \'Lesmok\' box shows more pronounced casing deterioration.
