Description
A vintage box of Union Metallic Cartridge Co. (UMC) .32 S. & W. Central-Fire Black Powder Cartridges, containing 50 rounds. The paper-covered cardboard box features a central label detailing “50 .32 S. & W. CENTRAL-FIRE CARTRIDGES,” the “UMC” (The Union Metallic Cartridge Co.) logo, specifications for “10 GR. POWDER” and “88 GR. BULLET,” and the manufacturer’s location, “BRIDGEPORT, CONN., U.S.A.” Further labels on the sides specify “Adapted to .32 Smith & Wesson and other Revolvers,” denote “BLACK POWDER,” and include a recommendation signed “Smith & Wesson.” The interior reveals fifty brass-cased cartridges with lead projectiles and visible “UMC” headstamps. This item is consistent with early 20th-century or late 19th-century antique ammunition.
Condition report:
The cardboard box is in fair to poor antique condition, exhibiting significant age-related discoloration, yellowing, surface dirt, and multiple horizontal splits and tears along its sides and ends. The labels remain largely legible despite the wear. The interior cartridges appear to be in good, well-preserved, and likely unfired condition.
