Description
A Winchester Model 1885 Single Shot Low Wall Rifle, chambered in .22 W.C.F. This single-shot falling block sporting rifle features an octagonal blued or patinated steel barrel and receiver, paired with a richly grained wooden stock and forend, and a metal buttplate. The barrel is marked ‘MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN CONN. U.S.A.’. The top of the breech is marked ’22 W.C.F.’. The underside of the receiver bears the inscription ‘PAT. OCT 7TH 79.’ and the serial number ‘18457’. It is accompanied by a modern black soft rifle case.
Condition report:
Good overall condition for its age, exhibiting considerable wear, finish loss, and patination on the metal components. Some surface corrosion is present. The wooden stock and forend show various dings, scratches, and a rich patina, consistent with historical use.
