Vintage Winchester .38-72 Smokeless Soft Point Ammunition, 12 Rounds
Description
A vintage box of Winchester .38-72 Smokeless Soft Point Center Fire rifle cartridges. This lot comprises 12 rounds, housed within an orange paper-labeled cardboard box originally intended for 20 cartridges. Likely dating to the early 20th century, the box features prominent “WINCHESTER” branding and states “Manufactured by the WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS COMPANY, New Haven, Conn. U. S. A.” It also associates the ammunition with the “WINCHESTER REPEATING RIFLE, MODEL 95.” Visible markings on the box include “Trade Mark Reg. U. S. Pat. Off. and Throughout the World,” along with numerical codes “2818” and “4-19.” The brass-cased cartridges feature lead soft-point bullets and are arranged in an internal cardboard tray. Headstamps clearly show “W.R.A. CO. 38-72 W.C.F.”
Condition report:
The outer packaging is in fair to poor condition, exhibiting significant wear, discoloration, tears, and residue consistent with age. The internal cardboard tray shows commensurate wear. The cartridges appear in comparatively better, though tarnished, condition.
