Description
A vintage collectible ammunition box by The Union Metallic Cartridge Co. (U.M.C.) for .40-65-260 Central Fire Cartridges. This vintage cardboard box, originally labeled for twenty rounds, now contains 8 rounds of .40-65-260 Central Fire Cartridges. Manufactured by The Union Metallic Cartridge Co. of Bridgeport, Conn., U.S.A., the box features multiple paper labels. A prominent green top label indicates “For Winchester and Marlin Rifles” and details “40 Calibre., 65 Grs. Powder., 260 Grs. Bullet,” alongside a graphic of a cartridge. A side panel label advises to “Use only U. M. C. No. 2½ PRIMERS in reloading these Cartridges.” A circular green “GUARANTEE” seal on the back lists compatible arms such as Winchester, Remington, Savage, and Stevens. A red label on one end identifies the contents as “.40-65-260 WIN. and MARLIN Inside Lubricated.” The visible cartridges inside bear “REM-UMC” and “40-65” headstamps, with brass casings.
