Description
An antique Allen & Thurber six-shot pepperbox pistol, retailed by A.W. Spies. Constructed from cast steel with a dark wooden grip featuring a cream-colored oval inlay. Markings on the top strap read “A.W. SPIES” and “N.Y. PATENT”, while the multi-barreled cluster is stamped “PATENTED 1837” and “CAST-STEEL.” Visible scrollwork engraving adorns the frame above the grip. The pistol appears structurally complete.
Condition report:
Fair. The metal surfaces are heavily oxidized, displaying significant discoloration, pitting, and widespread surface rust. The wooden grip shows age-related wear. Overall condition reflects considerable age-related wear and corrosion.
