Lot 240:
Description
A mid-19th century Chas. Osborne, London transitional percussion revolver. Constructed from blued steel with a finely checkered dark wooden grip featuring an inlaid escutcheon with a rosette design. The firearm displays engraved scrollwork on the frame, hammer, and a hinged butt cap, characteristic of an English manufacturing style. Visible markings include “CHAS. OSBORNE. LONDON” prominently on the octagonal barrel and “IMPROVED REVOLVING PISTOL” on the frame above the trigger, alongside smaller star-like proof marks near the barrel breech and on the six-shot cylinder. This example is a double-action percussion revolver.
Condition report:
The revolver retains little of its original blued finish, showing widespread surface pitting and dark patination consistent with age and use. The finely checkered dark wooden grip is intact, with the inlaid escutcheon present. Engraved details remain visible despite wear. Mechanically appears sound, though functionality is untested. Structurally intact.
