A Colt Model 1849 Pocket Percussion Revolver, circa mid-19th century, constructed with a steel or iron barrel, frame, cylinder, and hammer, complemented by a brass trigger guard and backstrap, and fitted with dark wooden grip panels. The top of the barrel is marked “COLT’S PATENT ARM’S M’F’G. CO. HARTFORD CT U.S.A.” followed by patent dates: “PAT. JAN. 1, 1851 APR. 25, 1854 SEP. 4, 1860” and partially “SEP. 1, 1863 SEP. 29, 1863”. The brass backstrap is stamped “2805”, and a fainter “905” is visible on the underside of the barrel assembly, indicating mismatched components.
Condition report:
The metal components exhibit significant surface rust, pitting, and wear, largely obscuring any original finish. The brass elements show tarnish and some wear. The wooden grips are worn with visible scratches, dents, and minor losses. The revolver features mismatched serial numbers.
