Vintage Western Cartridge Company .38 S. & W. Ammunition Box with 39 Rounds
Description
A vintage cardboard box of Western Central Fire Cartridges, manufactured by Western Cartridge Company, East Alton, Ill., U. S. A. The box contains 39 rounds of ammunition. It was originally advertised to contain 50 rounds of “.38 CAL. S. & W.” ammunition with “NUBLEND POWDER” and “145 GR. BULLET.” The green and red packaging features the “Western” diamond logo and specifies the cartridges are “ADAPTED TO .38 SMITH & WESSON AND OTHER CENTRAL FIRE REVOLVERS” and are “INSIDE LUBRICATED,” with a guarantee visible on one side. The contents are a mixed assortment of .38 S. & W. central fire cartridges, not appearing uniform. Brass casings display various headstamps including “WESTERN,” “W.R.A. Co.,” and “WCC,” paired with a variety of lead and possibly jacketed or copper-washed bullet types.
Condition report:
The cardboard box is in poor condition, showing significant wear, creasing, tears, and discoloration consistent with age and handling. The cartridges exhibit varying degrees of tarnishing, oxidation, and some visible corrosion.
