Lot 1498:
Description
A collection of 100 rounds of vintage Remington Arms-Union Metallic Cartridge Co. (UMC) .32 S. & W. Black Powder ammunition. The lot comprises two rectangular paper or cardboard boxes, each originally designed to hold 50 central fire cartridges. Both boxes are prominently branded “REMINGTON ARMS-UNION METALLIC CARTRIDGE Co.” with “UMC” logos, specifying “.32 S. & W. 88 GRS. BULLET” and indicating “BLACK POWDER” as the propellant. Text on the packaging also states they are “Specially adapted for .32 Smith & Wesson and other arms,” manufactured by “UNION METALLIC CARTRIDGE WORKS BRIDGEPORT, CONN. U.S.A.”. One box lid’s interior contains partial instructions reading, “These cartridges are made according to the directions of Smith & Wesson and their use.” Both boxes contain a mixture of approximately 50 cartridges each, primarily with lead bullets and brass or heavily oxidized cases, many marked “.32 S&W” on their primer cups.
Condition report:
The outer packaging of both items exhibits significant wear, discoloration, tearing, and material loss, consistent with age and storage. The contained cartridges show heavy oxidation and grime.
