Description
An American Chippendale Style Governor Winthrop mahogany secretary bookcase, likely mid-20th century. This two-part construction features a dark reddish-brown hardwood, consistent with mahogany. The upper cabinet is surmounted by a broken arch pediment with a central flame finial, and houses two glazed doors with distinctive geometric muntins. Below, the slant-front desk opens to reveal a fitted interior comprising pigeonholes, small drawers, and a central door adorned with a carved fan motif flanked by turned columns. The lower case is fitted with four graduated serpentine drawers, each with brass bail handles and escutcheon plates. The piece is supported by carved bracket feet terminating in paw feet. No visible text or markings are apparent.
