Description
A Winchester Model 1894 Lever Action Saddle Ring Carbine, serial number 965711. The rifle is constructed from wood for the stock and fore-end, with steel used for the barrel, receiver, and other mechanical components. The barrel is marked “MANUFACTUREED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN, CONN. U.S.A. PATENTED AUGUST 2, 1894.” Further along the barrel, it is marked “NICKEL STEEL BARREL ESPECIALLY FOR SMOKELESS POWDER – 30 W.C.F.”, indicating the .30 Winchester Center Fire caliber. Winchester “W” in circle proof marks are present on the receiver. The rifle features a rear tang sight and a saddle ring on the receiver.
Condition report:
The rifle exhibits significant wear consistent with age and use. The metal components feature a patinated finish with areas of surface wear, minor pitting, and some loss of original bluing. The wooden elements display numerous scratches, dents, and finish degradation, but appear structurally sound.
