Description
A Colt Model 1851 Navy .36 Caliber percussion revolver, constructed with ferrous metal components for the barrel, frame, cylinder, and hammer. The trigger guard, back strap, and butt strap are made of brass. The grip is a one-piece wooden design, featuring an incised star or geometric marking. The top barrel flat is stamped “ADDRESS. COL. SAML. COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA”. The serial number “17031” is visible on the brass trigger guard and butt plate. The left side of the frame is marked “36 CAL”. The cylinder exhibits faint, heavily worn engraved scenes, characteristic of a naval battle.
Condition report:
The revolver is in significantly aged and worn condition. Ferrous metal components display extensive surface corrosion, pitting, and substantial loss of original finish. The cylinder engravings are heavily worn and faint. The wooden grip shows considerable wear, scratches, and a prominent incised marking. Overall, consistent with prolonged use and exposure.
