Description
A vintage Winchester Repeating Arms Company ammunition box for .38 Caliber Colt New Police cartridges, containing 44 rounds of mixed manufacturer ammunition. The cardboard box features a bright green paper label on the front, detailing “WINCHESTER” as the trade mark, “50 .38 CALIBER COLT NEW POLICE” Center Fire Rifle Cartridges, described as “SOLID HEAD” with “150 Grain Grooved Bullet”, and manufactured by the Winchester Repeating Arms Company of New Haven, Conn., U. S. A. The label also includes a graphic of a bullet marked “38 COLT POLICE POSITIVE”. The rear of the box has a cream-colored label outlining “LICENSE TO THE TRADE IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” with various legal conditions. The 44 cartridges inside bear headstamps primarily “R-P 38 COLT NP” (Remington-Peters) and “UMC 38 COLT NP” (Union Metallic Cartridge), with at least one “WINCHESTER 38 COLT NP” visible, indicating a collection of cartridges from various manufacturers.
Condition report:
The vintage cardboard box shows significant wear, discoloration, and some tears, consistent with age and storage. The paper labels are aged but largely intact, with some fading and minor creasing. The cartridges are in fair condition, with brass cases exhibiting varying degrees of tarnish and oxidation. The lead bullets show some wear but are generally intact.
