Description
A L.C. Smith Specialty Grade side-by-side double-barreled shotgun, likely manufactured in the early 20th century, with a visible patent date of “PAT’D MAY 28, 1901” on the receiver and forend. The firearm features blued steel barrels and a blued steel receiver, extensively adorned with fine scroll engraving that extends to the trigger guard and top tang. It is fitted with a reddish-brown wooden stock and forend, both exhibiting checkered panels for grip. The butt features a replacement hard rubber or composite Pachmayr brand recoil pad, marked “U.S. PATENT D. 191,339” and “LOS ANGELES 15, CALIFORNIA U.S.A.”. Key visible markings include “L.C. Smith” on both sides of the receiver, “L.C. SMITH Specialty Grade” on the barrel rib, and “HUNTER ARMS CO INC MFRS FULTON, N.Y. U.S.A.” on the underside of the barrels. The serial number “47648” appears on the trigger guard tang and within the action, alongside “CHAMBERS 3”.

Condition report:
Overall condition indicates wear consistent with age and use. There is noticeable bluing loss and surface scratches on the barrels and receiver. The wood appears solid with minor handling marks, but there is a crack in the buttstock. The engraving remains distinct. The recoil pad is a later replacement.
