Description
An early 20th-century American Standard Arms Model G Semi-Automatic/Slide Action Rifle, primarily constructed of blued steel and dark wood. The barrel is marked “CAL .30” and “MAN’F’D. BY STANDARD ARMS CO. WILMINGTON, DELAWARE, U.S.A.”. Further patent details visible state “W.F. SMITH’S PAT’S. PATENTED MAR. 6, APR. 10, APR. 24, 1909. OTHER PATENTS PENDING.” The rifle features a “REDFIELD” marked adjustable rear sight. The serial number “8962” is visible on the underside of the receiver. A distinctive, elaborate brass or bronze fore-end sleeve is adorned with high-relief engravings depicting a moose head on one side and a roaring lion or tiger head on the other, both surrounded by trees and foliage. The buttplate, also in brass or bronze, is engraved with stylized intertwined “S” and “G” initials within a diamond, surrounded by foliage. The wooden fore-end near the muzzle displays a series of horizontally carved notches.
Condition report:
The rifle appears in good condition for its age. It exhibits typical wear, scuffs, and thinning of the blued finish on metal components. The wooden stock and fore-end show various dents and scratches consistent with age and use. No significant damage or structural issues are immediately evident.
