Description
A scarce Oneida Community Newhouse No. 4 1/2 Wolf Trap. Constructed entirely from ferrous metal, this vintage, heavy-duty leg-hold animal trap features a pair of spring-loaded jaws, a prominent circular trigger pan, a robust link chain, and a swivel with two large, twisted hooks at the terminal end. The circular pan is embossed with the English markings: “S. NEWHOUSE”, “NO. 4½”, “ONEIDA COMMUNITY N.Y.”, and “SEPT. 26. 1916.”, indicating a patent or manufacturing date of September 26, 1916.
Condition report:
The trap is in well-used, heavily patinated, and oxidized condition, exhibiting significant surface rust across all ferrous metal components. It appears complete and structurally sound for its age, consistent with a vintage item designed for outdoor use.
