Lot 439:
Description
This lot comprises two boxes of vintage Remington UMC .22 Short R.F. Smokeless ammunition. Each box originally contained 50 rounds, totaling 100 rounds. Manufactured by The Remington Arms-Union Metallic Cartridge Company, the paper labels are predominantly orange with a plaid border, featuring black and yellow text, displaying prominent “UMC” and “Remington” branding, a bullet illustration, and specifics such as “29 GRS. BULLET” and “UNGREASED.” The boxes also bear the manufacturer’s details: “UMC BRIDGEPORT WORKS, BRIDGEPORT, CONN. U.S.A.” and state recommendations for “Remington UMC Repeating Rifles” and “Gallery and Target Shooting.” Internally, one opened box reveals 50 brass-cased cartridges with “U” headstamps and dark lead bullets, appearing relatively clean. The second opened box contains 50 cartridges showing visible tarnish and oxidation on both their lead bullets and casings.
Condition report:
The packaging exhibits significant wear, discoloration, tears, and losses to the paper, consistent with age. One box of cartridges appears relatively clean, while the cartridges in the second box show visible tarnish and oxidation.
