Description
A vintage Winchester cardboard ammunition box, predominantly orange and beige, containing fifty .44 Smith & Wesson Russian smokeless center-fire cartridges. The box’s primary label, printed in black, features the Winchester trademark, lists specifications such as “OILPROOF,” “NON-MERCURIC,” “STAYNLESS,” “246 GRAIN LEAD BULLETS,” and notes manufacture by “WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO., NEW HAVEN, CONN., U. S. A. DIVISION OF OLIN INDUSTRIES, INC.” A graphic illustration of a cartridge with “RUSSIAN” text is also present. The side panel repeats “44 S. & W. RUSSIAN CENTER FIRE SMOKELESS CARTRIDGES WINCHESTER MAKE” with a large ‘W’ logo and the code “K 4474 T”. The brass-cased cartridges inside feature lead bullets and are primarily headstamped “W.R.A. CO. 44 S&W RUSSIAN.”
Condition report:
The cardboard box displays considerable wear, including tears, creases, scuffs, and discoloration consistent with age and handling. The cartridges exhibit varying degrees of tarnishing on their brass components and minor imperfections on the lead bullets. Generally, the cartridges appear to be in good vintage condition.
