Description
An antique cardboard box containing 50 rounds of .38 S. & W. Central Fire metallic cartridges by Remington Arms – Union Metallic Cartridge Co. (UMC). The two-part cardboard box features paper labels identifying the contents as “50 CENTRAL FIRE CARTRIDGES” for “.38 S. & W.” caliber, with branding from “UMC” and “Remington Arms – Union Metallic Cartridge Co., Bridgeport, Conn. U.S.A.,” including “REG. U.S. PAT. OFF.” markings. One side of the box prominently displays a “Smith & Wesson” script logo, while another side label indicates “BLACK POWDER” beneath a “UMC” logo. The visible cartridges inside are metallic and are marked “UMC” and “.38 S & W” on their bases.
Condition report:
The box is in poor to fair condition, showing extensive wear, surface loss, and discoloration consistent with age, particularly on the black-painted trim and paper labels. The paper labels exhibit significant rubbing, creasing, and areas of loss. The visible cartridges inside are tarnished with some verdigris present.
