Vintage Winchester .25-20 Center Fire Single Shot Cartridges, 45 Mixed Rounds
Description
A vintage cardboard box of Winchester .25-20 Center Fire Cartridges, manufactured by the Winchester Repeating Arms Co., New Haven, Conn., U. S. A., for Winchester Single Shot and other Rifles. The box contains 45 mixed rounds. Likely dating from the early 20th century, the box features printed paper labels, predominantly green on top and orange on the sides. The labels identify the original contents as “50 .25-20 CENTER FIRE CARTRIDGES,” “SOLID HEAD,” with “19 Grs. Powder, 86 Grs. Bullet.” A “Pat. June 28, 1910” marking is present on one of the orange side labels. Inside, the box contains metallic cartridges with headstamps such as “W.R.A. Co.” and “25-20 W.C.F.,” intermixed with unjacketed lead bullets.
Condition report:
The cardboard box is in poor condition, showing extensive wear, tears, creases, discoloration, and partial text loss on its labels. Tape has been used to secure parts of the packaging. The cartridges and bullets within exhibit varying degrees of tarnish, oxidation, and some verdigris, consistent with age.
